Kyiv City Council denied information about a three-fold increase in the water tariff. The capital’s authorities have not approved an economically justified tariff.
The water tariff of almost UAH 90 per cubic meter, previously calculated by Kyivvodokanal, will not be introduced for residents of the capital – the city has not agreed on such a rate. This, writes Glavred, was reported on the official Telegram channel of the Kyiv City State Administration. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
This is an economically justified tariff, calculated by Kyivvodokanal, but it will not be applied for the time being. Instead, for Kyiv residents, the cost of centralized water supply and wastewater services will be UAH 63.79 per cubic meter.
“The corresponding tariff was approved by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities back in 2024,” the Kyiv City State Administration reported.
It is noted that taking into account the average consumption of cold water in Kyiv for a family of three, the water fee will increase by 200–300 hryvnias.
It should be noted that in cities with a population of up to 100 thousand people, tariffs are approved by local authorities based on calculations by utility companies providing the relevant services.
Previously, tariffs for regional centers were set by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities. However, since March 11, 2026, Law No. 4777 came into force, which transferred these powers to local governments.
There is no single water tariff in Ukraine, as each water utility forms its own prices, which are approved either by the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Water Resources of Ukraine or by local authorities. The cost of services also depends on the specific supplier and the type of connection to the house.
As of May 2026, water supply and sewage tariffs for the population in many cities of Ukraine remained at the level of February 2022.
Water tariffs will increase in Kyiv
As Glavred wrote, Kyivvodokanal has already provided the capital authorities with calculations of new tariffs. According to the company’s proposal, water supply will cost 50.69 hryvnia per 1 cubic meter instead of the current 16.16 hryvnia, and sewage will cost 38.21 hryvnia per 1 cubic meter instead of 14.22 hryvnia.
If the city authorities approve these proposals, in general, water tariffs in the capital will increase by 58.52 hryvnia per cubic meter – up to 88.90 hryvnia.
Kyivvodokanal explains that revising the tariff to an economically justified level is a forced step, not an end in itself.
We remind you that in Ternopil they also plan to significantly increase the cost of water supply and sewage. Previously, the tariff was planned to be set at 98.59 hryvnias per cubic meter. However, currently, a working group created at the initiative of the city council is looking for ways to reduce the financial burden on consumers.
In Rivne, the water tariff may also be changed. The main reason is that the current tariffs have not changed since the beginning of 2022, which is why the company is suffering losses in the millions every month.

According to energy expert Yuriy Korolchuk, the electricity tariff in Ukraine may increase to 5–5.5 hryvnias per kWh. Tariffs for other utility services remain frozen, but this may be a temporary phenomenon.
Water and heat tariffs may soon increase. In particular, the water tariff has already been tried to be increased twice during the full-scale war against the aggressor country Russia.
