Initial funds arrive under a €120 million credit agreement
Ukrhydroenergo expects to receive €21 million from the European Investment Bank. The funds will be used for the urgent restoration and modernization of hydropower plants. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Ukrhydroenergo.
The financing is part of a broader credit agreement with a total value of €120 million. The project aims to improve the operational stability and reliability of hydropower facilities with the support of the European Union.
The agreement was signed on July 10, 2025, in Rome during the URC2025 recovery conference. The allocation of the first tranche was officially announced on September 17, 2026, during the Energy Ramstein ministerial meeting.
Targeted investment purpose
Ukrhydroenergo CEO Bohdan Sukhetskyi emphasized that international support remains the foundation for stabilizing the power grid. The company will use the resources to strengthen infrastructure damaged by constant attacks from the rf.
New investments will help adapt hydropower plants to modern wartime challenges. According to the CEO, the priority is to restore lost capacity as quickly as possible and ensure the continuous operation of power hubs.
Long-term cooperation with the EIB
The partnership between the financial institution and energy companies has been ongoing since 2014. Initial contracts focused on scheduled reconstruction of hydro units, but since the full-scale invasion, priorities have shifted to urgent repairs of hydraulic and hydromechanical equipment.
Currently, the bank continues to provide credit resources for targeted modernization programs. These measures are critical for maintaining the resilience of Ukraine’s energy network under prolonged combat conditions.
