How to Free Up Phone Storage Without Deleting Files: Guide for iPhone and Android

Safe ways to clear smartphone storage without losing personal data

iPhone and Android users can free up space on their device storage without deleting important documents, personal photos, or messaging history. This requires checking memory usage, clearing app caches, and locating unnecessary downloaded files. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Остапова Анастасія), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

A full smartphone storage often leads to reduced device performance and a lack of space for installing updates or new apps. Before starting the cleanup process, it is worth analyzing the current memory state to identify which specific applications and files consume the most resources.

Checking storage on an iPhone is performed through the settings menu under the general parameters section. On smartphones running the Android operating system, a similar section is usually located in the device settings under storage or device memory.

Clearing Cache and Offloading Apps

Cache consists of temporary files that applications create to speed up information loading, but over time they increase significantly in volume. Android users can safely delete this data through application settings by selecting the appropriate item in the storage menu of a specific app. It is important not to confuse clearing the cache with erasing all application data, as the latter can result in the loss of settings and login information.

Apple device owners do not have a universal button to clear the cache of all programs, but they can use the offload feature. This tool allows removing the application itself to free up space while keeping all related documents and data preserved in the gadget memory.

Handling Large Files and Messengers

A significant portion of memory can be occupied by forgotten documents, audio recordings, videos, or internet downloads that are easily found through the built-in Files app on iPhone or a file manager on Android. Before deleting any material, experts advise necessarily checking its contents so as not to accidentally lose important contracts or tickets. Tools like Files by Google help automatically detect duplicates and unnecessary large objects.

Messengers such as Telegram and WhatsApp also accumulate huge arrays of media files due to activity in chats and groups. Managing storage inside the programs themselves allows cleaning local copies of media files without destroying cloud messages, although users should ensure they have backups of important correspondence beforehand.
