US President Donald Trump made a resonant statement on the financing of military aid to Kyiv, emphasizing that Ukraine must independently pay for all the weapons it buys from the United States. According to the American leader, the current payment scheme through NATO structures does not meet the interests of the United States, since the Alliance actually takes over the financial obligations of the customer. As reported by True.ua, he said this in a telephone interview with Fox News. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
Direct payments
Trump is convinced that the current system of military supplies to Ukraine requires an immediate review in terms of financing. According to him, the situation when the North Atlantic Alliance pays the bills for American products, and not directly by Kyiv, is unacceptable. Trump clearly outlined his position on financial responsibility for the weapons received:
“I’ll tell you one thing about Ukraine: Ukrainians must pay for everything, and they pay through NATO. When they buy missiles from us, when they buy anything from us, it doesn’t go to them, it goes to NATO, and it’s NATO that pays the bills.”
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the need for support from Ukraine to repel Iranian drone attacks. The American leader argued this with his belief in a quick end to the conflict with Tehran and the exceptional superiority of American technology.
