EU agrees to support restoration of Druzhba oil pipeline, Ukraine agrees to project

The European Union has confirmed its readiness to finance the restoration of the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Kyiv has officially agreed to join the project, which is considered part of a broader strategy to strengthen the region’s energy sustainability. This is reported by Pershyi Biznesovyi, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

According to preliminary agreements, EU support will cover technical modernization of the pipeline, updating security systems and repairing infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. Brussels emphasizes that the restoration of the route should provide alternative opportunities for oil transportation and reduce dependence on unstable routes.

Ukraine emphasizes that the project is not associated with a return to old cooperation schemes with Russia. This is about infrastructure that can be used for diversified flows and new logistics solutions within the European market.

The financing is planned to be carried out through special instruments supporting EU energy projects. The final technical parameters and scope of work will be determined after the assessment of the condition of the Ukrainian section of the pipeline is completed.

As a reminder, the Government expects that participation in the project will strengthen Ukraine’s integration into the European energy system and increase the reliability of regional infrastructure.
