Ukrainian experts emphasize that thanks to the experience of the war against the Russian Federation, they have learned to use air defense systems much more effectively – usually using one or two missiles even against more complex targets, such as ballistic missiles.
The Ukrainian military, who worked in the Persian Gulf countries, were surprised at how the United States and its allies shoot down cheap Iranian drones with expensive missiles, according to The Times, the PromPolitInform portal informs.
According to Ukrainian officers, Patriot and SM-6 missiles worth millions of dollars are used in the region to intercept drones.
“For example, they launched SM-6 missiles – that’s about $6 million – to bring down a shahed for $70 thousand,” said one of the interlocutors.
Also, according to him, up to eight Patriot interceptor missiles, worth more than $3 million each, were sometimes used to hit one target.

“I don’t understand what they did for four years while we fought,” the Ukrainian officer said, adding that the allies “often shot thoughtlessly.”
Separately, Ukrainians were surprised by the vulnerability of American radars. According to them, Iran was able to hit expensive surveillance systems, in particular, a warning radar worth about $1 billion and at least one radar of the THAAD complex, which for a long time remained in the same positions and were visible even in open satellite images.
“For two months they stood in one place. Then came the chess – and that’s it,” – said the Ukrainian military.
The publication emphasizes that the Ukrainian air defense system is one of the most complex in the world – it combines Soviet and Western systems, mobile groups, electronic warfare systems and even interceptor drones.
The Ukrainian military also emphasize that due to the constant threat of shelling, they have significantly improved the camouflage and maneuvering of air defense systems and are now ready to share this experience with partners.
- Earlier, Zelensky said that three professional Ukrainian teams went to the Middle East. They will work in different countries of the region in the fight against Iranian drones. In exchange for this assistance, Kyiv expects to receive missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
- President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a large-scale “drone agreement” between the United States and Ukraine that will combine America’s industrial power with Ukraine’s combat experience.
- Ukraine has provided the United States with technology to intercept drones to increase security in the Middle East.
- earlier it was reported that for three days in the Middle East, about 800 American-made missiles were used to intercept Iranian air targets. This figure is shocking against the background of the needs of Ukraine: this is more than the Armed Forces of Ukraine used in four months last winter, said European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius.
