Zelensky signed a law on the study of the foundations of national resistance in universities and colleges

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law introducing a new discipline for students of universities and professional colleges – “Fundamentals of National Resistance.” It will replace basic military training.

This was reported in the Verkhovna Rada, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

The law on certain issues of preparing citizens for national resistance provides for a new model of education integrated into the educational process at all levels – from secondary to higher education.

The document provides for the introduction of the discipline “Fundamentals of National Resistance,” the creation of special training centers, and also regulates the use of firearms during practical training.

At the same time, the passage of this course will not require students to take a military oath, undergo a medical examination, arrive at the CCC and joint venture, receive a military specialty or acquire the status of a military liable.

The training will be held jointly for all students, regardless of gender. For people with special educational needs, as well as those whose religious beliefs do not allow the use of weapons, separate educational trajectories will be provided.

It is primarily about practical knowledge and skills necessary in modern conditions: actions in crisis situations, preservation of life and health, provision of pre-medical assistance and orientation in security challenges.

It was previously planned that from September 1, 2026, students will necessarily undergo basic combined arms training, which included training in the handling of weapons, explosive devices, behavior on the battlefield and the provision of first aid.

After completing such a course, young men were to be assigned a military accounting specialty.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense explained that the law on national resistance states: a man without military experience cannot become a civil servant.

The same requirements will apply to candidates for local self-government bodies and to the positions of prosecutors. At the same time, the new rules will come into force not earlier than a year after the termination or abolition of martial law.
