On Friday afternoon, May 15, 205 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and the State Border Service returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity. This is the first stage of the exchange of 1000 to 1000, said the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, informs portal PromPolitInform.
Among the dismissed are privates, sergeants and officers. Most of them have been in Russian captivity since 2022. They defended Ukraine in Mariupol and Azovstal, in Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkov, Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Sumy, Kyiv directions and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, “he said.
The President thanked “everyone who works for the return of our people home, especially our soldiers who replenish the exchange fund for Ukraine, and our team.” As well as partners who help to free Ukrainians from captivity.
- The idea of a large exchange of 1000 to 1000 appeared against the backdrop of a three-day truce (May 9-11). However, dictator Vladimir Putin recently said that Ukraine “disappeared from the radar” and did not provide proposals.
- On May 13, Dmitry Lubinets announced that Russia was blocking the exchange of prisoners of 1000 to 1000.
