New tax for internet providers: tariffs for Ukrainians may increase this year

Ukraine is preparing for changes in the telecommunications sector that may significantly affect the cost of the internet for the population. According to market participants, the authorities are considering introducing a new tax for internet providers, which will actually increase their costs for maintaining and developing networks. This is reported by “Pershy Business“, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

Providers warn that the additional fiscal burden will inevitably affect tariffs. Most companies operate in difficult conditions: infrastructure is regularly damaged by shelling, costs for repairs and backup power are increasing, and revenues remain limited. In such conditions, the new tax may become a factor that will force operators to raise prices.

According to experts, the price increase may be uneven. The largest increase in tariffs is expected in small cities and towns, where competition between providers is weaker, and profitability is already minimal. In large cities, the increase may be more modest, but still noticeable.

Industry representatives emphasize that without state support or a revision of the tax model, some small operators may not be able to withstand the load and leave the market. This will create risks for Internet accessibility, especially in regions where there are few alternative providers.

Recall that the decision on the new tax will determine the dynamics of tariffs for the coming months. If the document is adopted in its current form, the price increase will become almost inevitable.
