The Cabinet of Ministers has introduced different terms of validity of driver’s licenses for different categories of transport.
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution amending the rules for issuing driver’s licenses and admitting citizens to drive vehicles. The innovations are aimed at gradually bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with European standards and improving road safety. This was reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, writes Sudovo-Yurydychna Gazeta. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
According to the document, the validity period of a driver’s license will depend on the category of vehicle.
Thus, licenses will be issued for 15 years to drivers of motorcycles and cars (categories A1, A, B, B1, ВЕ), and for 5 years to drivers of freight and passenger transport (categories C, СЕ, С1, С1Е, D, DE, D1, D1Е, T).
After the restoration of mandatory medical examinations during the exchange of licenses, regular confirmation of health status will become one of the mandatory conditions for admission to driving vehicles. For drivers of passenger cars, a medical examination will be carried out during the exchange of a license every 15 years, and for drivers engaged in passenger and freight transportation – every 5 years.
At the same time, driver’s licenses issued earlier will remain valid until the expiration of their validity period specified in the document.
In addition, during a planned exchange of a driver’s license, it is not necessary to retake the theoretical and practical exams, unless otherwise provided for by law.
The resolution will come into force from the date of its official publication.
