Ukraine informed the International Civil Aviation Organization that Russian airspace is not safe for civil aviation due to increased military activity and called to avoid flights through it. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
Commenting on this step, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga emphasized that Russia is deliberately ignoring the existing threats caused by its aggression against Ukraine, which has already led to several incidents in recent years. Therefore, against the background of a sharp increase in terror by Russia against Ukraine, Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous.
The message emphasizes: Ukraine has responsibly informed ICAO, as well as all airlines and governments, so that they take the necessary safety measures. Even despite Russia’s refusal to fulfill its obligation to inform them.
“We strive to prevent unintentional incidents. The war is returning to Russia. Ukraine is exercising its inalienable right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the Foreign Minister noted.
