New water supply and sewerage rates will amount to 63.79 hryvnias
The Kyiv City Council supported the decision to increase the water supply and sewerage tariff to 63.79 hryvnias per cubic meter. A total of 74 deputies of the city council voted in favor of the relevant decision. This was reported by Suspilne Kyiv, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
A total of 74 deputies cast their votes for the relevant decision during a meeting of the city council. Representatives of the authorities explain the need to review the rates by the rising costs of electricity, fuel, and reagents necessary for the operation of the municipal enterprise.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko emphasized that the National Commission for State Regulation in Energy and Utilities sectors recommended reviewing the rates back in 2024. The water supply industry has currently found itself on the verge of survival, while the authorities do not plan to introduce fully economically justified rates for the population, the head of the city noted.
Cost of utility services
Deputy Mayor Petro Panteleev noted that the current decision is designed to curb a sharp price increase for the residents of the capital. According to him, the regulator previously recommended setting the tariff at about 90 hryvnias per cubic meter. The official also added that the salaries of water utility workers remain among the lowest compared to similar enterprises.
Without additional steps and financing, it will be extremely difficult for the enterprise to operate stably during the heating season. The previous general tariff for water supply and sewerage in the city was 30.38 hryvnias per cubic meter, including value-added tax.
