OSINT analysts identified a fire site near anti-aircraft complex positions
On the night of September 4, a series of explosions and a fire were recorded in the Russian city of Sochi following a drone attack. Eyewitnesses released footage of the detonation, and local authorities confirmed the operation of air defense systems. This was reported by Glavcom citing the Telegram channel of Astra, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Videos circulating online show a massive flash accompanied by detonation. Mayor Andrey Proshunin officially confirmed the drone attack and the activity of defense systems, urging residents not to share information about the specific locations where emergency services are operating.
Geolocation of the fire near the Psou River
Independent researchers from the Astra publication geolocated the published footage. According to their findings, the fire broke out near the Sirius settlement, situated right at the border with Abkhazia near the Psou River.
Analysts indicate that this area hosts Russian S-300 or S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. Despite the lack of official confirmation regarding the final destruction of the equipment, observers link the incident directly to the positions of the occupying forces’ air defense.
Repeated strikes on the coast
This event occurred less than 24 hours after another significant strike in the region. The day before, on September 3, the Russian auxiliary vessel Nefrit, used for oil and gas operations and subsea technical tasks, was hit in the port of Sochi.
In recent months, the security situation on the Russian Black Sea coast has deteriorated significantly. Notably, in August, attacks were reported on military facilities and S-400 systems in the Gelendzhik area, as previously noted by Robert Brovdi.
Systematic attacks on Sochi create major logistical obstacles, including periodic suspensions of local airport operations. Furthermore, according to the Financial Times, the threat level has caused Russian leader Vladimir Putin to almost entirely stop visiting his former resort residence.
