The Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated over 11,500 square kilometers of territory
The Kharkiv offensive operation, which began on September 6, 2022, became one of the most successful campaigns of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. As a result of the rapid actions, more than 500 settlements were liberated and a strategically important Izyum bridgehead of the russian troops was eliminated. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In September 2022, the Ukrainian military launched a large-scale offensive in the Kharkiv region, which was initially planned as a diversionary maneuver to prevent the transfer of enemy forces to the Kherson direction. As a result of the coordinated actions of headquarters and units of various military branches, a cascade collapse of the russian defense occurred, which allowed troops to advance 145 kilometers deep into the occupied territories.
Liberated territories and strategic success
The large-scale operation made it possible to return Balakliia, Kupiansk, Izyum, and Lyman under state control. The elimination of the Izyum bridgehead, which previously posed a constant threat to Sloviansk and the Ukrainian grouping in Donbas, became a key achievement that radically changed the security situation in the region.
The destruction of the enemy’s logistics chains allowed pushing the front line to the east and creating strategic depth for the further defense of the country. Such success demonstrated to international partners the ability of the Ukrainian army to effectively use the provided aid to achieve concrete military results.
An example of maneuver warfare
The success of the operation was achieved through high levels of coordination between scouts, artillerymen, tankers, infantry, and special forces. The high professionalism of the fighters, who operated under heavy enemy fire, allowed them to seize the offensive initiative and demonstrate an example of modern maneuver warfare.
Despite the victories achieved, the command emphasizes the high price paid for the liberation of the territories. Today, Ukraine honors the memory of the soldiers who died during combat missions and expresses gratitude to everyone who contributed to restoring normal life in the de-occupied lands.
