Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has continued his military service and enrolled in the doctoral program at the National Defence University of Ukraine. After leaving his post, he passed a medical examination, was deemed fit, and remained in the Defence Forces. This was reported by hromadske, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The former head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces declined offers to take up civilian positions. He decided to focus his future work on systematising and sharing his accumulated combat experience with Ukrainian and Western military personnel.
Currently, the general is undergoing training in the doctoral program of the higher military educational institution. At the same time, the process of selecting the focus and topic for his future dissertation is underway.
Establishing a new area of service
The decision to continue military service was made after passing a routine medical board examination. The military educational institution is part of the overall system of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, allowing him to retain his military status.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the former military leadership, including Oleksandr Syrskyi and former Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, would not leave the service. The head of state emphasised the importance of leveraging their experience to train the new command staff.
