Kyiv seeks to obtain American ballistic missiles for its own 'Freya' program
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a probable meeting with Donald Trump in the second half of September. During the talks, the parties plan to discuss defense cooperation and diplomatic initiatives. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Олена Чупровська), according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The head of state intends to raise the issue of ballistic missile supplies during the dialogue with the American leader. Ukraine is currently working on its own missile program codenamed ‘Freya’ and is hoping for US assistance in its implementation.
As Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, it is crucial to obtain the necessary missile packages to ensure strategic defense objectives. In addition to bilateral formats, efforts are underway to potentially transition to trilateral negotiations, with details currently being processed through diplomatic channels.
Diplomatic initiatives in New York
The UN General Assembly, taking place in New York at the end of the month, may serve as a potential platform for the next round of discussions. The President has set the task of intensifying diplomatic processes over the coming two months.
Parallel to this, the American side is exploring options for a winter de-escalation of the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia. A potential peace agreement could include security guarantees for energy infrastructure, as well as stability in grain supplies and energy exports.
