Main Russian strikes targeted Kyiv and Odesa regions during the attack
On the night of 8 September, Ukrainian air defence forces shot down and suppressed 175 enemy targets during a combined Russian strike. Defenders neutralised two ballistic missiles, 31 cruise missiles, and 142 drones. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The enemy launched a massive air assault starting at 18:00 on 7 September. Russian forces deployed Kh-101 air-launched cruise missiles, Onyx anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M, S-400, and KN-23 ballistic systems, along with 166 Shahed strike UAVs and Parodiya decoy drones.
Kh-101 missile launches originated from Russia’s Vologda region. Ballistic systems and anti-ship missiles were fired from Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions, as well as from temporarily occupied Crimea.
Attack vectors and launch locations
Kamikaze and decoy drones were launched from Orel and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, Hvardiyske in occupied Crimea, and occupied Donetsk. More than half of the deployed Shahed drones were equipped with jet engines.
The primary directions of the combined attack were Odesa and Kyiv regions. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups were deployed to repel the assault.
Air defence combat performance
As of 08:30, defenders destroyed 31 Kh-101 or Iskander-K cruise missiles, two ballistic missiles, and 142 enemy drones, including Shahed and Herbera types.
Military officials recorded missile and drone impacts across 29 separate locations. Debris from intercepted targets fell in an additional 9 locations.
