Industrial production fell by 0.3% over seven months, and construction work decreased by 8.1%
Average nominal wages in Ukraine increased by 21.7% year-on-year, reaching 32,243 hryvnias in July. At the same time, the industrial and construction sectors are reporting a decline in production. This was reported by Socportal, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
According to official data from the State Statistics Service, overall GDP dynamics in the second quarter of 2026 showed a slight annual growth of 0.6%. Despite the general increase in household cash income, the real state of specific economic sectors remains challenging.
Stagnation in industry and construction
The industrial sector reduced its output by 0.3% in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period last year. In July, the year-on-year decline in industrial production reached 1.7%.
The situation in the construction industry is even more significant: the volume of construction output decreased by 8.1% in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, there is a substantial increase in the cost of construction services, which in June exceeded last year’s prices by 23.1%.
Inflation impact on income
Consumer inflation in July was recorded at 7.7% year-on-year. This indicates that nominal wage growth is outpacing inflationary processes, although it is not a direct indicator of a corresponding increase in citizens’ purchasing power.
Experts note that such contradictory indicators point to an uneven recovery of economic processes. The combination of a decline in physical work volumes and the rising cost of construction services highlights structural problems in the sector.
Analysts emphasize that official statistics during martial law are compiled with limited geographical coverage. The data provided reflects different time periods and should not be used as a single index for the state of Ukraine’s economy.
