Forum participants developed changes aimed at increasing the effectiveness of military rehabilitation
Kyiv hosted the first international forum dedicated to improving the systemic support and reintegration of Ukrainian military personnel who returned from Russian captivity. People's Deputy Taras Tarasenko announced the preparation of amendments to regulatory acts to optimize this process. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Verkhovna Rada.
Participants of the event “Returning is a Common Cause” discussed rehabilitation mechanisms and psychological support for former prisoners. The discussion involved representatives of security agencies, international partner organizations, and civil society.
Updating the legislative framework
As noted by member of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy and Veterans’ Rights Protection Taras Tarasenko, the key task now is to form a holistic system that ensures proper reception and support for defenders at every stage of their return to civilian life. To this end, experts have developed a number of initiatives that require legislative consolidation.
Individual experience of reintegration
Special attention during the forum was paid to the importance of public support and social adaptation of veterans. The People’s Deputy cited the example of Ihor Shyshko, who, after 801 days in captivity, managed to return to active life and headed the “Plich-o-plich” (“Side by Side”) veterans’ space in Kharkiv. This case demonstrates the need for a comprehensive approach to restoring the physical and mental health of service members.
