Operators are forced to invest in network restoration and energy independence
The cost of internet access services may increase due to the need to restore infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. Operators are incurring additional costs to ensure autonomy and build redundant communication channels. This was reported by Delo.ua citing RBC-Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Stanislav Prybytko noted that the revision of pricing policies by providers is primarily driven by economic challenges related to addressing the consequences of enemy attacks. The constant destruction of data centers, network equipment, and cable lines compels companies to consistently allocate funds for asset replacement.
Investments in Energy Resilience
In addition to restoration work, significant resources are spent on preparing for extended power outages. Currently, 92% of base stations are equipped with batteries that support operation for up to eight hours. Furthermore, 68% of facilities are already capable of operating for more than three days by using generators.
Stability of the Telecom Market
Despite regular shelling, a total shutdown of internet connectivity in Ukraine is considered unlikely. This is due to high market competition, the presence of numerous providers, and an extensive system of alternative data transmission routes. Nevertheless, intense strikes on communication facilities do cause temporary local disruptions in certain regions.
