Secretary of State Marco Rubio responds to Russian demands to evacuate diplomatic missions from Kyiv

The US will independently assess the security situation for its diplomats in Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the American side will independently decide on the feasibility of maintaining its diplomatic presence in Kyiv. According to the official, constant threats from the Russian Federation are not a new tactic, so Washington continues to act based on its own analytical data. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Валерій Ульяненко), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Marco Rubio emphasized that the American administration regularly monitors the security environment for each of its diplomatic missions worldwide. In the event of real risks that require a correction of current policy, a decision to change the position will be made immediately.

Security procedures for diplomatic missions

Earlier, The Guardian reported that Western embassies were preparing evacuation plans in case of intensified Russian strikes on foreign representations. According to this information, diplomats could relocate to Lviv or Poland, but the final actions will depend on future developments.

In turn, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi denied that there were any official requests from foreign states regarding such intentions. He explained that there is an established protocol under which missions are required to notify Ukrainian authorities in advance about relocation plans, which has not occurred so far.

Pressure strategy on Kyiv

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the Russian leadership is trying to increase shelling of the capital to implement their initial plans from the start of the full-scale invasion. The enemy’s goal remains to create an atmosphere of fear to force residents to leave Kyiv.
