Ukrainians can travel by rail with their cars by using special auto-carrier wagons. To do this, one must place an order at a station ticket office or submit a request via the carrier’s official website. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Ukrzaliznytsia’s official regulations, as reported by the PromPolitInform portal.
Routes and available cities
The company noted that special auto-carrier wagons are currently integrated into trains running between major Ukrainian cities.
Car transport can be arranged to and from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Lviv, and Uzhhorod.
To order the service, drivers must submit a request on the carrier’s website or visit a station ticket office in person.
Required documents and payment
To successfully arrange and ship the vehicle, the driver must have two documents on hand:
The vehicle registration certificate (logbook);
Proof of identity (passport, etc.).
Payment for the service is made at specialized baggage ticket offices at railway stations.
They operate according to the following schedule:
Kyiv (ticket office No. 10) – daily from 08:00 to 17:00; Dnipro (ticket window No. 9) – daily from 07:30 to 17:00;
Odesa (ticket window No. 4, specialized hall) – daily from 08:00 to 17:00;
Kharkiv (ticket window No. 1, Northern suburban ticket hall) – daily from 08:00 to 17:00;
Lviv (ticket window No. 5) – daily from 08:00 to 17:00;
Uzhhorod (ticket window No. 5) – daily from 08:00 to 18:00.
What is the cost of transporting a car?
Transporting a car in an Ukrzaliznytsia car-carrier wagon costs from 1,546 hryvnias per tonne of the vehicle’s weight, plus 150–250 hryvnias for the space reservation.
What makes up the price?
- Space reservation fee: 150 to 250 UAH per vehicle (payable at the time of booking).
- Transport tariff: depends on the vehicle’s weight and the specific route (averaging between 1,200 and 3,000 UAH per trip).
