On October 8, a major outage affecting various online services, banks, media websites, and retail chains occurred in Russia. The issues began following a Ukrainian drone attack on a Yandex data center in the Ryazan region, which caused a fire. Russian media reported the incident, according to the PromPolitInform portal.
Monitoring data indicates that T-Bank, MTS-Bank, Sovcombank, Alfa-Bank, Avito, Google, YouTube, RuTube, Ivi, KION, and the Russian Railways website experienced disruptions. Users of mobile operators and major retail chain websites also reported issues.
The highest number of complaints concerned Avito, with over 14,000 reported in a single day. A significant number of reports regarding the issues came from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The outage also affected the online bus ticket sales system in the Moscow region. Mostransavto announced the suspension of the data center that powered the service. The company estimates that restoring the system could take up to 24 hours.
Russian Railways (RZD) stated that some users might experience issues accessing the company’s website due to the operation of external services. However, the company noted that the RZD app was unaffected by the outage.
Access issues also arose with the websites of Russian media outlets, including RBC, RIA Novosti, Kommersant, Vedomosti, and Interfax. Some sites were inaccessible even via VPN.
