Ukrainian authorities and the European Commission discussed Ukrzaliznytsia's need for locomotives

Deputy Minister for Restoration, Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Shemaiev met with Peter Wagner, Head of the European Commission's Service for Foreign Policy Instruments. The parties discussed supplying JSC Ukrzaliznytsia with used locomotives and spare parts, preparing communities for the heating season, and restoring border infrastructure damaged by strikes. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side raised the issue of ensuring stable operations in the railway sector and upgrading its rolling stock. Specifically, the discussion covered the needs of Ukrzaliznytsia for used locomotives, spare parts, and specialized equipment to maintain passenger and freight traffic both within the country and on international routes to European Union nations.

Preparing communities for the heating season

During the talks, the participants also reviewed the readiness of Ukrainian communities for the winter period. The discussion focused on implementing projects for energy supply decentralization and installing alternative power sources.

Restoration of border infrastructure

The European delegation was presented with data on the consequences of Russian strikes on border crossing points. Officials discussed measures for the rapid restoration and modernization of border infrastructure to maintain the throughput capacity of export-import corridors.

“Today, it is critically important for us to ensure the stable operation of the railway, prepare communities for a difficult winter, and protect logistical arteries and border crossings from the enemy’s destructive attacks,” emphasized Volodymyr Shemaiev.
