More than 64 hectares of forest within the Zhdeniivska community were illegally alienated for a private residence
The Commercial Court of Zakarpattia Region has granted the regional prosecutor's office claims to return 64 hectares of forest land to state ownership. The territory was used by a private company for the needs of a residence associated with a former Member of Parliament. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Zakarpattia Oblast Prosecutor's Office.
In addition to the return of 64 hectares of forest, the prosecutor’s office is investigating a total area of 220 hectares that were unlawfully enclosed by a metal fence. It has been established that these plots came into the use of commercial entities back in 2013 for a 49-year term, ostensibly for the construction of a sports and health complex for a football club.
Violation of land use terms
It was proven in court that the actual operation of the territory did not correspond to its designated purpose, which provided for recreational services for the public. Instead, the site became a restricted area for the vacation of the former MP’s family, leading to the degradation of the ecosystem in these areas.
Criminal proceedings against officials
Simultaneously with the property claims, there is an ongoing court hearing regarding cases against six officials responsible for the preservation of regional forest resources. Law enforcement officers have charged them with abuse of power, professional negligence, and facilitating the unauthorised occupation of land, which resulted in grave consequences.
Status of the investigation
The pre-trial investigation regarding another suspect in the case is currently ongoing. As for the remaining lands that were leased as part of the specified scheme, the prosecutor’s office continues to support the relevant claims in court.
