Ukrainian foreign minister highlighted Moscow's open arrogance amid reduced pressure
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on Russia's explicit rejection of a ceasefire and US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives. The head of the diplomatic service emphasized that the aggressor displays arrogance due to a lack of proper international pressure. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Сергій Козачук) citing Andrii Sybiha, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The Ukrainian diplomat noted that the open disregard for peace proposals demonstrates the Kremlin regime’s high level of contempt for international calls. In his view, the absence of adequate influence on the aggressor only provokes further escalation in the rhetoric of Russian officials.
“Russia rejects peace. Everyone knows this. But how openly they are ready to reject President Trump’s proposals shows how arrogant they are,” Andrii Sybiha emphasized.
Link Between Pressure and Russian Rhetoric
The head of the MFA of Ukraine stressed that the Kremlin regime perceives any weakening as permission to continue its aggressive policy. Moscow’s reaction is a direct consequence of diminished international impact on the aggressor state.
“Russian killers do not respect calls for peace at all. That is what happens when pressure weakens: the less pressure, the more arrogance,” the Ukrainian minister concluded.
Russia’s Stance on a Ceasefire
The Ukrainian diplomat’s response followed statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who publicly rejected the idea of a truce. Moscow claimed that a pause in hostilities would allegedly allow the Defense Forces of Ukraine to regroup and receive new weapon shipments from partners.
Additionally, the Russian side accused Ukrainian leadership of creating conditions that prevent presidential elections. Meanwhile, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated readiness for elections provided Russia agrees to a full 60-day ceasefire, but the Kremlin continues to reject all diplomatic proposals.
