American lawmaker urges SpaceX to clarify terminal disruptions for Ukrainian forces
US Republican Senator Thom Tillis has urged SpaceX founder Elon Musk to explain the restrictions on Starlink satellite communication terminals for the Ukrainian military. The lawmaker emphasized that any deliberate weakening of Ukraine's defense capabilities is unacceptable. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The American politician reached out to the founder of the private space company via the X microblogging platform, demanding official clarifications regarding nighttime disruptions in the operation of satellite terminals. According to him, such technical restrictions raise concerns and require an immediate response from the manufacturer.
“Elon Musk, please tell me that these nighttime outages of Starlink terminals in Ukraine were unintentional, and SpaceX is doing everything possible to fix the temporary glitch,” Tillis wrote.
National Security Concerns
In the opinion of the Senate representative, such situations must not indicate a shift in corporate policy regarding the provision of communication services in the combat zone. Deliberately degrading communications for Ukrainian units could be interpreted as aiding an aggressor in mass murder.
“Can you confirm that this is not the goal of SpaceX?” the senator asked Musk, adding that the Ukrainian people simply want to live in peace on their own land.
Right to Self-Defense
The US senator stressed that Ukrainian citizens did not ask Putin to bomb their homes and hospitals and are not interested in destroying energy infrastructure, but merely want to defend their country. In his view, supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty must not be a matter of uncertainty for the US government or American corporations.
“Can you clarify the position of SpaceX?” he asked Musk in conclusion.
