The October 17 strike caused damage to the company's energy infrastructure
On October 17, Russian occupation forces launched six ballistic missiles at the production facilities of the Zaporizhstal plant. No casualties or injuries were reported as staff members were in designated shelters during the shelling. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Metinvest.
This marks the fifth targeted attack on the enterprise in recent months. During the morning shelling, enemy projectiles hit internal logistics and energy infrastructure facilities. Repeated damage was also recorded at production sites responsible for blast furnace operations.
History of systematic shelling
Massive ballistic missile strikes on the plant were recorded on August 11 and 27, as well as September 12 and 17. The total number of enemy missiles launched at the plant’s territory since August 11 has reached 23. Unfortunately, previous acts of aggression resulted in the deaths of eight employees, while 31 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Impact on production capacity
Following the first series of August strikes, the entire production complex was completely halted. Personnel were deployed solely for debris removal and measures to prevent technological risks. Although certain technological processes were partially resumed to keep equipment in a safe state, the plant has not returned to full-scale operations.
Safety measures at the facility
“The aggressor country destroys and distorts, attempting to annihilate. But our people continue to work: meter by meter, they clear debris and unite during the cleanup of strike consequences,” said Oleksandr Myronenko, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest Group. Due to persistent security threats, the plant expanded its network of protective structures, installing reinforced mobile shelters near repair zones to ensure staff can quickly respond to air raid alerts.
