On the night of October 18, unidentified individuals attempted to set fire to a facility in Lithuania storing Starlink satellite communications equipment. The sabotage attempt was thwarted thanks to increased security measures implemented following a government warning. This was reported by Delo.ua, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius reported the incident. The official emphasized that the company managing the Starlink equipment took timely additional security measures, which allowed them to neutralize the threat.

Security of strategic facilities

During the same period, an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle was detected in the country’s airspace. Due to weather conditions, fighter jets scrambled for interception were unable to shoot down the drone. In response to these events, the Prime Minister called a meeting of the National Security Commission for October 19.

Participants will work to determine the drone’s flight path and the location where it was first picked up by radar. Discussions will also cover granting special services expanded powers to counter enemy UAVs.

Foreign sabotage cases

Similar incidents have been recorded in other European countries. Notably, Bulgaria experienced the deliberate destruction of 11 out of 17 Starlink antennas near Sofia. In Poland, late September saw the arson of a ground gateway that provided connectivity for Ukraine.

SpaceX equipment plays a critical role in maintaining communications during military operations. “Our services are monitoring the activities of hostile states very closely and are taking measures to protect people and their property,” Mindaugas Sinkevicius stated.
