Mobile connection on highways and in villages: Kyivstar expands 4G network

The operator installed nearly three thousand new stations in the first half of the year

Mobile operator Kyivstar provided high-speed 4G internet access to 96.2% of Ukraine's population as of 2026. The company installed thousands of new base stations and improved coverage along key national motorways. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Сергій Новіков) citing NCEC, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

During the first six months of the current year, the enterprise erected about three thousand new base stations and upgraded more than five thousand existing facilities. Thanks to the performed works, access to the modern communication standard appeared in 128 settlements, in particular in villages of Lviv, Vinnytsia and Ternopil regions.

Development of communication on motorways

Special attention was paid by specialists to transport arteries of international and national significance. In 2025, new equipment was mounted on more than 300 road sections, and during the first half of 2026, the network was improved on another 96 segments.

Among other things, the infrastructure was deployed along the Kyiv – Vinnytsia – Chop highway and the Dnipro – Vinnytsia – Stryi route. The upgrade also affected high-altitude sections of Ukrainian motorways that are difficult to cover.

Total length of roads with coverage

Currently, more than 12.5 thousand kilometers of motorways are provided with a stable LTE signal. Such measures allow drivers and passengers to use digital services during trips between regions.

Abandonment of outdated 3G technology

The network expansion process was facilitated by the complete decommissioning of the outdated 3G standard, which the operator completed first in the market in August 2026. More than one million subscribers successfully migrated to the more modern technology for higher speeds and a more stable connection.

For a separate category of corporate clients, the outdated communication format was temporarily left locally due to equipment specifics. The full transition of all such objects is planned to be completed in the near future.
