In Ukraine, at the legislative level, they approved the announcement of a minute of silence at 9 am in memory of the victims of the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, informs the portal  PromPolitInform.

260 people’s deputies voted for the document.

The text of the law states that during a moment of silence, the memory of servicemen, volunteers, doctors, rescuers, journalists, volunteers and civilians who died due to the war will be honored.

Information on its beginning and completion will be provided by local state authorities and local self-government bodies.

The law allows the use of warning and information systems in the field of civil protection to announce the morning minute of silence.

All state institutions and enterprises, as well as the media, regardless of their ownership, should inform about the beginning and end of a minute of silence at 9 am.

After the signing of the new law by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the Cabinet of Ministers and local authorities have three months to normalize notifications and hold a minute of silence.

As the People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak pointed out, the norm was added to the second reading that every year on the fourth Saturday of November at 16.00 there will be a national minute of silence and the action “Let’s Light a Candle,” as a tribute to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.

The law comes into force on the next day after its official publication.

In the first reading, the parliament voted for the document on December 16, 2025.
