Mobile operator Kyivstar will begin shutting down its 3G network in parts of Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Khmelnytskyi oblasts on August 18, 2026. The freed-up frequencies will be reallocated to expand 4G coverage.
This was reported by Glavcom, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The freed radio resources will be directed toward expanding the capacity and coverage of the fourth-generation network. The changes will affect Kryvyi Rih and its district, a number of districts in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, as well as Khmelnytskyi and other cities and districts in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
Modern communication standards will gradually replace outdated technologies
In the settlements where the shutdown takes place, subscribers will not lose connectivity because 4G will fully replace the older technology. In the long term, this process will help prepare the infrastructure more effectively for the rollout of fifth-generation networks.
Subscribers are offered free card upgrades
Users with outdated SIM cards are advised to replace them for free with USIM cards while keeping their phone number at any official operator store. A special device setup guide is also available for transitioning to the new standard.
