The funds will be used to repair damaged energy infrastructure and purchase critical equipment.
Sweden has increased the contribution to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine by 600 million Swedish kronor, which is approximately 56.4 million euros, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
The new funds have a wide purpose. They plan to send to repair and restore energy facilities damaged by Russian attacks, the purchase of critical equipment, as well as passive means of protecting energy infrastructure.
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal noted that the energy sector continues to work in conditions of constant attacks and is preparing for the next heating season.
“According to the latest estimates of the World Bank, the total needs of Ukrainian energy in the recovery amount to 90.6 billion dollars. We carry out repair work 24/7 and have already begun to prepare for the next heating season. Sweden’s new contribution to the Fund is a significant support for our energy sector during this difficult period, and we sincerely thank our partners for this assistance,” he said.
The ministry noted that after this contribution, the total assistance of Sweden to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine increased to 259.5 million euros.
Recall, on February 13, the Swedish authorities also reported a contribution of $100 million for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine as part of the PURL project. On February 19, Sweden announced a new package of assistance to Ukraine for 1.2 billion euros.
