Rutte denied rumors about the US redirecting weapons for Ukraine to the Middle East

American weapons within the framework of the NATO PURL mechanism, in particular air defense systems and missiles to them, will continue to be supplied to Ukraine, despite the needs of the war in the Middle East.

This, as the correspondent of “European truth,” said NATO Secretary General mark Rutte, during the presentation of his report for 2025 at the headquarters of the Alliance in Brussels, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

Rutte assured that weapons under the PURL mechanism will arrive in Ukraine without interruption, and will not be redirected to the Middle East.

“I can assure you that the critical support from the United States for Ukraine, paid for by the allies – this well-known abbreviation PURL – continues to flow,” Rutte said, commenting on media reports at the request of journalists that the Pentagon is considering the possibility of redirecting weapons to the Middle East, in particular interceptor missiles for air defense, already ordered under the PURL program L for Ukraine.

In his words, we are talking, in particular, about interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, as well as other critical military equipment for Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General expressed his conviction that “along with the intelligence data that the United States shares with Ukraine,” it is supplies under PURL that are “vital.”

However, he clarified that during a public briefing he could not provide all the information about individual arms shipments.

“Since its launch last summer, PURL has now supplied about 75% of all missiles for Ukrainian Patriot batteries and 90% of ammunition used in other air defense systems,” Rutte said.

“So it continues. This is good,” the head of the Alliance added.
