The police stressed that it was in the Bucha cases that the principle of command responsibility was first applied in Ukrainian practice in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.

This means that responsibility will be borne not only by the direct perpetrators of crimes, but also by commanders who gave orders or did not stop subordinates.

Memories of the General Staff

Separately, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recalled that March 31, 2022 was the day of a turning point in the defense of the Kyiv region.

After the liberation of Irpin on March 28 and Demidov on March 30, the Russian group in Bucha was in a half-flow and began a hasty retreat towards Borodyanka and the border.

It was on this day that the Ukrainian military first saw the consequences of the massacres of civilians, which the world later learned as the “Buchan massacre.”

“March 31 will go down in the history of our settlement as the day of liberation from the Russian orcs,” – said then the mayor of Bucha Anatoly Fedoruk.

The liberation of Bucha opened the way to Gostomel and Vorzel and actually removed the immediate threat to Kyiv from the north-west direction.

Recall that the foreign ministers of the EU and Ukraine announced the creation of a special tribunal for the aggression of the Russian Federation.
