Ukraine receives the necessary volumes of fuel through imports – Zelensky

Ukraine receives the necessary volumes of fuel, work on supplies with European partners and Middle Eastern countries continues, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening video address on April 7. Radio Liberty reports this, the PromPolitInform portal reports.

“Virtually all markets in the world are destabilized, and the economic consequences can be significant. Our internal decisions are needed so that Ukraine is still provided with what is necessary for now and so that in the long term we can provide for our defense, our economy and social needs. It is important that we have agreements on fuel supplies to Ukraine, and now – for March and April – the necessary volumes are being imported. I thank all companies – both state and private. We are working on supplies with European partners, as well as with Middle Eastern countries,” the head of state said.

After the start of the US-Israeli military operation on February 28, Iran effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the world ocean. The strait is of strategic importance, as it supplies oil from the oil-producing countries of the Persian Gulf to the world market. Blocking the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has become one of the main factors in the sharp increase in world energy prices.

Since the beginning of the war in the Middle East, only a small number of ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz. For the most part, these have been ships associated with countries that Iran considers friendly. A system is currently being formed under which Tehran pre-approves transit along a route that passes close to its coast. Pakistan, in particular, has reached an agreement to cross the strait under its flag, and other Asian countries have also provided safe passage.
