Fears of a Russian nuclear strike spreading in Ukraine are unfounded. At the same time, the Russian arsenal still poses a serious threat.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the head of the Office of the President Kirill Budanov said this in an interview with The Times, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to him, the aggressor country has the opportunity to launch a nuclear strike “at any time and at any distance.”
Budanov stressed that the Russian nuclear potential allows the Kremlin to perform such a task.
“But this is primarily a matter of political will. I saw no sign of preparation for a nuclear strike. If they were, I would know,” said the head of the OP.
Recall that recently the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said that Russia was forced to “think about ensuring strategic security” after the US withdrawal from the Missile Defense Treaty.
The head of the Kremlin also mentioned the Oreshnik missile system and noted the possibility of equipping it with nuclear warheads.
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War reported that Russia is building up its nuclear capabilities at the fastest pace since the Cold War and is strengthening its military presence near the borders of NATO countries. According to analysts, such steps may indicate Moscow’s preparations for a long confrontation with the Alliance.
In addition, NATO countries criticized Russia’s nuclear policy. In particular, Russia violated key arms control commitments and used irresponsible threatening nuclear rhetoric.
