Water tariffs have increased in a number of Ukrainian cities since July 1: where will they pay twice and three times more

From July 1, new tariffs for centralized water supply and wastewater began to operate in a number of Ukrainian cities. In some communities, the cost of services has increased by more than twofold, and in some cases – threefold. The highest tariffs are currently set in Uman, Pavlohrad and Berdychiv.

From July 1, local governments in many communities of Ukraine have introduced new tariffs for centralized water supply and wastewater. After the revision of the cost of services, residents of certain cities will receive significantly higher bills, since in some communities prices have increased by more than twofold, writes the newspaper “Na pensii“. This is reported by the PromPolitInform portal.

Why were the tariffs revised?

Decisions on new tariffs are now made by local authorities. Previously, for most large water utilities, they were approved by the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities of Ukraine, but after the transfer of relevant powers, this issue was transferred to the executive committees of city and regional councils.

Municipal enterprises explain that the revision of the cost of services is associated with an increase in costs for electricity, fuel, reagents, repair materials, labor, as well as the need to maintain the operation of critical infrastructure facilities. In many cities, it is noted that tariffs for the population have not changed since 2022.

Where water has become the most expensive

The highest combined tariff for water supply and wastewater has been set in Uman since July 1 – UAH 157.32 per cubic meter.

Among the cities where the largest price increase occurred:

Pavlograd – the tariff increased from UAH 53.66 to UAH 113.47 per cubic meter;

Berdychiv — 101.76 UAH per cubic meter;

Vinnytsia — from 25.62 to 81.01 UAH per cubic meter, which is more than three times higher than the previous level;

Uzhhorod — 91.24 UAH per cubic meter;

Cherkasy — 56.71 UAH per cubic meter;

Kremenchuk — from 31.80 to 64.07 UAH per cubic meter.

Where else have new tariffs been introduced?

The updated prices have also come into effect in other communities of Ukraine.

In particular:

in Ternopil, the tariff is 38.46 UAH for water supply and 34.32 UAH for sewage, excluding VAT. Including tax, the total cost exceeds 87 UAH per cubic meter;

in Ivano-Frankivsk, the total tariff is 66.05 UAH per cubic meter;

in Orzhytska community in Poltava region, water supply will cost 40 UAH per cubic meter.

At the same time, in the Kirovohrad region, the Dnipro-Kirovohrad enterprise proposed to increase the tariff from 45.97 to 109.14 UAH per cubic meter, but this decision has yet to be considered and approved by the regional council.

Compensation is being prepared in some cities

After the tariff increase, some communities announced their intention to partially compensate additional costs to residents.

In Ternopil, the city budget plans to cover the difference between the indicators of general building and apartment meters so that residents of apartment buildings do not pay additional charges.

In Vinnytsia, local authorities also announced the preparation of a compensation mechanism after a sharp increase in tariffs. At the same time, detailed conditions for receiving such support have not yet been made public.
