The United States has launched the procedure for granting licenses to Ukraine for the production of missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This was reported by Slovo i Dilo, The Kyiv Independent reports, citing a Ukrainian official familiar with the negotiations. The PromPolitInform portal informs.
According to the source, the issue has moved from political statements to practical implementation. The American defense company Lockheed Martin, which produces these missiles, supports the transfer of the relevant licenses to Ukraine.
The interlocutor also believes that the procedure will not be delayed for several months, as previously assumed.
Recall that during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky at the July NATO summit in Ankara, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington is ready to grant Ukraine the right to independently produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
Bloomberg journalists, citing sources familiar with the negotiations, previously wrote that it is unlikely that such a project will be implemented quickly – this is hindered by complex technologies, problems with the supply of components and the constant threat of Russian strikes.
The media also reported that the missiles for the Patriot systems, the production license for which Ukraine will receive from the United States, will most likely initially be manufactured in Germany or another European country.
