Verkhovna Rada announces changes to mobilization and conscription age

Ukraine is preparing new mobilization mechanisms that will include a revision of the conscription age. Secretary of the Defense Committee Roman Kostenko noted that radical updates to the procedures are currently being drafted.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Пилип Бойко), according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to Roman Kostenko, significant adjustments to conscription approaches are currently being discussed. Specific details regarding future changes are to be released by the relevant agencies — the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The MP emphasized that the increase in financial bonuses for contracts has not yet ensured the expected influx of volunteers into the military. The rate of contract signing remains unchanged or shows a downward trend.

Compulsory mobilization will be maintained

The committee secretary denied the possibility of switching to a purely voluntary recruitment system. Mobilization measures will remain compulsory, as the primary pool of citizens who expressed a desire to join the army at the beginning of the full-scale invasion has already been exhausted.

Kostenko also dispelled concerns regarding the potential cancellation of deferments for fathers of three or more children. There are no such legislative initiatives being developed, and the status of multi-child fathers remains a ground for exemption from mobilization.

Women’s service remains voluntary

The MP also assured that there are no plans for the compulsory mobilization of women. Their participation in the activities of the defense forces is possible only on a voluntary basis.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need to provide proposals for a “more humane” model of the mobilization process. Currently, the Ministry of Defence is working on a reform of the territorial recruitment centers.
