On the morning of August 23, in the Odesa region, a Russian jet-powered drone attacked a train carrying 593 passengers. There were no casualties due to the timely emergency stop of the train.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Тетяна Степанова) citing Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The hostile attack damaged a locomotive hauling train No. 147 on the Zhytomyr — Odesa route. At the time of the incident, there were 593 people, including 15 children, on board.
Passenger safety during the attack
Casualties were avoided thanks to the actions of the monitoring team of Ukrzaliznytsia. The experts promptly identified the threat and ordered the train to stop on the stretch, allowing for a timely evacuation. The company is currently organizing the transportation of the passengers to their final destination.
Systematic attacks on the railway
Russian forces continue to deliberately strike railway infrastructure facilities. In particular, on the night of August 22, the enemy attacked a facility in Kyiv with ballistic missiles, resulting in the death of an employee. A similar incident involving a jet-powered Shahed in the Odesa region occurred on August 13, when a strike on the locomotive cab killed the engineer and his assistant, although the lives of 340 passengers were saved.
