Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has exposed a resident of the Dnipropetrovsk region in Lviv, who was collecting information about infrastructure objects and state institutions. The perpetrator planned a series of provocations and assisted Russian special services in coordinating attacks on targets in two regions. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Security Service of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
According to the investigation, the suspect was recruited by the RF special services and carried out instructions from two different handlers. The agent’s main task was to gather intelligence on railway hubs, administrative buildings, and military facilities in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions.
To monitor objects in western Ukraine, the man arrived in Lviv. There, he conducted photographic recording of the perimeters of potential targets and marked their coordinates on mapping services for further transmission to the Russian side.
Execution of tasks and recruitment attempts
In addition to collecting intelligence, the agent engaged in destructive activities. Using paint, he applied graffiti on buildings with links to specialized chatbots to attract new individuals to collaborate with enemy special services.
Operatives detained the suspect red-handed while he was attempting to photograph infrastructure objects again. During the investigative actions, a mobile phone was seized from him containing documented data on contacts with the RF and gathered intelligence.
Consequences for the detainee
Currently, the perpetrator has been notified of suspicion of committing high treason under martial law. In accordance with Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him.
If proven guilty, the man faces the maximum penalty. The law provides for life imprisonment with mandatory confiscation of all property belonging to the detainee.
