On August 24, a Saudi oil tanker, Amzan, was attacked in the Red Sea, causing a fire on board. The incident occurred near the Saudi port of Yanbu, and the crew remains unharmed.
This was reported by USM — ports and shipping citing UK Maritime Trade Operations, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The incident was recorded approximately 63 nautical miles west of the port city of Yanbu. According to observers, the vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile, which triggered a fire on the main deck.
The situation on board after the strike
Despite the fire, the crew of the tanker avoided any injuries. Experts have so far found no signs of fuel leakage or other environmental contamination in the area following the incident.
Coordination of the shipowner’s actions
The fleet operator Bahri officially confirmed the attack. The company is maintaining continuous communication with the tanker’s crew and is coordinating with relevant services to address the aftermath of the strike.
Reasons and vessel specifications
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the strike, calling it part of the declared maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia. The vessel Amzan, built in 2004, is 333 meters long and was en route from the port of Ain Sokhna in Egypt.
