The share of jet-powered drones in Russian attacks across Ukraine may currently account for up to two thirds of all launched UAVs. This was stated by Yurii Ihnat, Head of Communications at the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Олена Бджола) citing Business Insider, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Russian forces are increasingly relying on drones equipped with jet engines due to the difficulty of intercepting them with conventional air defense systems. The share of such unmanned aerial vehicles during enemy air attacks can now reach up to two thirds of the total number, Yurii Ihnat said.
Previously, experts estimated the share of jet-powered devices at 20%, while former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated the aggressor’s plans to bring this figure to 50%. MP Yehor Cherniev noted that Ukraine manages to shoot down over 90% of traditional missiles and Geran-2 UAVs, which forces russia to shift towards faster targets.
To launch jet-powered drones, the adversary is expanding infrastructure at air bases, utilizing special long rails to accelerate the drone before the engine starts. Countering such threats requires new technological solutions due to the complexity of intercepting them with standard equipment.
Ukrainian manufacturers are developing a new class of high-speed interceptor drones to destroy jet targets. Specifically, the company SkyFall has created a high-speed interceptor P1-SUN Jetkiller capable of effectively combating such aerial threats.
