The Swedish Fortifications Agency has initiated the procedure for the compulsory acquisition of property owned by a Russian citizen. The site is located near the strategic Musko naval base and is considered a threat to national security. This was reported by Sveriges Television, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The Swedish Fortifications Agency has petitioned the government to begin the expropriation of private property located near the Musko naval base, which is part of the Haninge garrison. The decision is motivated by the need to ensure the country’s defensive capabilities and protect critical military infrastructure.
The owner of the property is a Russian citizen, and their presence in the immediate vicinity of military installations is classified by the defense ministry as a security threat. According to the Swedish Armed Forces, this is a critically important area that must be brought under control to establish effective defenses against the use of hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
National security in times of modern threats
Lieutenant General Carl-Johan Edstrom, Chief of the Defence Staff, emphasized that the current security situation is the most serious since the end of the Second World War. According to the military official, the risks associated with the use of drones are real, so the state must take measures to eliminate potential sources of danger near strategic locations.
The property in question has long been viewed by the military as a vulnerable point. Potential drone launches could be carried out from this location, and the government is expected to approve the compulsory acquisition of the property in accordance with existing Swedish legislation regarding the defense needs of the country.
History of the property acquisition
The estate, where a 600-square-meter house is currently being built, was purchased several years ago. According to available documents, the buyer paid over 18.5 million kronor for the plot, and media outlets previously reported on the individual’s links to the Russian state.
At the moment, the property owner remains unavailable for comment. The request for the compulsory purchase of the land is under review by the Government Offices, which must make the final decision regarding the fate of the property that hinders the establishment of full-scale protection for the Musko base.
