An improvised explosive device went off while the vehicle was moving
On August 27, 2026, a car explosion on Kolpinsky Highway in St. Petersburg killed a Russian army lieutenant colonel and hospitalized his wife in critical condition. The incident occurred in the morning in the Shushary district near a retail store. This was reported by Fontanka, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The vehicle blew up on Kolpinsky Highway as it started moving away from a residential building at around 10 a.m. A career military officer of the Russian army and his wife were inside the car.
According to preliminary data, an improvised explosive device detonated inside the passenger vehicle. Witnesses reported a powerful blast near the Magnit store at 18 Kolpinsky Highway.
As a result of the incident, both passengers suffered severe limb injuries. The Russian armed forces officer died of his wounds at the scene before an ambulance could arrive.
The woman was rushed to a nearby medical facility in critical condition. Doctors are taking emergency measures to save her life.
