The President signed Law 4954-IX on medical guarantees for Ukraine's defenders
Ukrainian military personnel will retain their financial allowance for the entire duration of inpatient treatment or rehabilitation. The corresponding law was signed by the President of Ukraine. The new regulations also cover treatment in foreign healthcare facilities. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The newly adopted Law No. 4954-IX introduces significant amendments to the current legislation governing the rights of military personnel, veterans, and released prisoners of war to proper medical care, rehabilitation, and prosthetics.
The key update is the removal of time limits on military pay. Previously, the financial allowance for the last held position was maintained during inpatient treatment for no more than 12 consecutive months. Now, the duration of treatment will not limit this right under conditions to be established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Military Medical Commission Requirements
Despite the lifting of pay limits, the requirement to undergo a Military Medical Commission (VLK) remains active. A serviceman must undergo a medical examination to determine fitness for service after treatment, but no later than 12 months from its start.
If the treatment and rehabilitation process lasts for more than a year, a repeated VLK examination must be conducted at least once every four months. The procedure for such check-ups will be separately established by the government.
Retaining the basic financial allowance does not mean automatic preservation of all additional payments or bonuses. The terms and conditions for additional rewards during medical leave will be regulated by a separate government resolution.
Nutrition and Prosthetic Supply
The new law also guarantees improved nutrition in healthcare and rehabilitation facilities. This rule applies to servicemen, veterans, former prisoners of war, as well as foreigners and stateless persons serving in the Armed Forces. Their treatment and rehabilitation will be funded equally from the state budget.
A separate clause of the document ensures that wounded soldiers and individuals with war-related disabilities will be provided with high-tech prosthetics and orthotics at the state expense.
