New outages reported in five regions following Russian strikes
Electricity consumption in Ukraine increased by 6.7% on September 1 compared to the previous day due to cloudy weather. Additionally, severe weather has left 188 settlements in the Sumy region without power. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing the Telegram channel of Ukrenergo.
As of the morning of September 1, new power outages have been recorded in the Kyiv, Donetsk, Sumy, Odesa, and Kharkiv regions due to ongoing missile and drone attacks by Russia. Emergency repair teams are conducting restoration works as soon as security conditions permit.
The significant increase in grid load is caused by cloudy weather and rain across most of the country. This reduces the efficiency of residential solar panels, forcing consumers to draw more energy from the general network.
Energy consumption and temperature trends
During the previous day, August 31, the peak daily consumption exceeded the figures for Friday, August 28, by 5.1%. This was driven by the massive use of air conditioning systems due to high temperatures.
Energy specialists advise consumers to optimize the use of electrical appliances by shifting energy-intensive tasks to the period between 10:00 and 16:00, when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently.
Grid failures due to severe weather
Severe weather remains a separate factor impacting grid stability. Due to thunderstorms and strong winds, power distribution networks in the Sumy region have failed in 188 settlements.
Local distribution system operators have deployed repair crews to the affected areas. Citizens are advised to monitor official communications from local power companies for updates on power restoration.
