As of early September, the residential sector has reached 79.2% completion in preparation works
As of early September, Ukraine has prepared over 114,000 residential buildings for the heating season, representing 79.2% of the planned target. Meanwhile, readiness in the social sphere has reached 86.5%. This was reported by Economichna Pravda citing the Ministry for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The Ministry for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport is reporting on the status of utility and social systems preparation for the winter period. As of now, inspections and technical maintenance have been completed for 20,600 healthcare facilities, schools, and kindergartens.
Status of heating and water networks
In the heat supply sector, engineers have prepared 14,194 boiler stations for operation, which accounts for approximately 83% of the total task volume. Specialist teams have also completed repairs on over 13,300 kilometers of main heating networks and upgraded equipment at central heating points.
Significant attention is being directed toward water and sewage utility companies. Specifically, 2,900 pumping stations and over 8,300 wells have been readied for stable winter operation to provide water for local communities.
Road infrastructure maintenance
Road services have restored 8.6 million square meters of asphalt pavement in preparation for cold weather. In addition to repair work, over 4,124 units of specialized equipment have been readied, and stockpiles of grit materials and reagents exceeding 1.3 million tons have been prepared for ice control.
“Our key objective is to ensure that communities can stably provide people with heat, water, and other basic services under the conditions of potential attacks and emergency situations,” noted Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine.
A specific focus during preparations is placed on frontline regions, where infrastructure risks are highest. In these regions, backup power supply schemes are being implemented, and mechanisms are being established to allow for the fastest possible restoration of critical system functions in the event of hostile shelling.
