Citizens have also voluntarily surrendered 494 units of weapons to law enforcement
As of October 6, citizens in Ukraine have officially declared over 24.7 thousand units of firearms and more than 15.3 million pieces of ammunition. This was reported by Ukrinform citing the National Police of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The process of legalizing arsenals continues within the framework of current legislation. According to the agency, the voluntary declaration procedure exempts citizens from criminal liability.
Surrendered arsenals and ammunition
In addition to registering existing barrels, since the start of the campaign the population has voluntarily handed over 494 units of weapons to law enforcement. A total of 86,582 rounds of ammunition of various calibers were also surrendered.
Upon discovering dangerous items, law enforcement officers recommend calling 102 immediately. Afterwards, citizens must visit the nearest department unit within 24 hours.
Registration restrictions
At the same time, there is a list of weaponry that is not subject to this procedure. In particular, it is forbidden to declare rifled weapons of 12.7 mm caliber and above, as well as machine guns and mortars.
Such restrictions apply to flamethrowers and other types of heavy weaponry used by military formations. The nationwide voluntary firearm declaration process began on November 25, 2024.
